This covered sports hall, located in Devdaha Municipality, Rupandehi, is a meaningful community project initiated by Devdaha Badminton Club and proposed to the municipality in memory of Youth Leader Durga Tiwari and local entrepreneur Basanta Paudel. The project stands not only as a physical structure but as a tribute to two influential figures whose contributions to the community continue to inspire generations.

Upon approval by Devdaha Municipality, the design team was entrusted with the opportunity to research, conceptualize, and execute a comprehensive design plan that reflects both the functional requirements of a modern sports facility and the emotional significance of its dedication.

Design Approach
The covered hall has been designed as a multi-purpose sports facility, with a primary focus on indoor badminton. Emphasis has been placed on creating a well-ventilated, durable, and accessible structure that serves both professional athletes and local youth while becoming a hub for community gatherings and sporting events.

Locally sourced materials form the backbone of the project. The use of chimney-made bricks, cement, sand aggregate, and mild steel ensures structural integrity and cost efficiency, while also supporting the local construction economy. For the flooring, vinyl surfaces have been selected for their shock absorption, durability, and ease of maintenance—ideal for indoor sports environments.

The design also pays attention to natural lighting and ventilation, incorporating strategic fenestrations and shading to create a comfortable playing environment in the region’s climatic conditions. Space planning allows for the inclusion of a reception area, changing rooms, and small bleacher-style seating for spectators.

More than just a sporting venue, this covered hall represents a symbol of remembrance, community empowerment, and youth development. It aims to cultivate athletic talent, promote healthy lifestyles, and foster a sense of pride and unity within Devdaha’s local population.
